Choosing the right business structure is essential for international companies looking to establish operations and set up a business in Australia, as it significantly impacts legal, financial, operational and strategic outcomes. There are several different types of business structures used by international businesses expanding into Australia.  Generally, foreign companies set up operations and conduct business in Australia via a subsidiary - incorporating a wholly-owned Proprietary Company (a Pty Ltd) - or by registering a branch of a foreign company. How long does it take to establish a business in Australia? There are several steps required to establish a business in Australia. Do I need an Australian-Resident Director and a Public Officer? For all foreign companies seeking to establish an Australian subsidiary, it is a regulatory requirement to appoint a local Resident Director and, for trading companies, a Public Officer. What registrations are required?
